Driving:
While y'all are driving to the ranch, keep an eye out for local ranchers' range cattle and have cameras ready for local wildlife - wild horses, deer, antelope, bobcats and other furry critters crossing the road. Very important - begin your journey with a full tank of gas as stations are sparse out here (like cell phone service) and their hours of operation are not like in the big city.

As you leave CEDARVILLE on east HWY. 299, you are now traveling on the famous “Lassen-Applegate” Emigrant Trail, which crosses over Fortynine Mountain in Nevada.
-
CA HWY. 299 turns into Nevada 8A, described as “a good road – graded and drained gravel, but go slowly and enjoy our beautiful countryside. Look for range cattle, wildlife and the occasional rancher – they don’t always look both ways before crossing the road!
- Mapquest directions instruct drivers to turn onto Dugway Pass. Please disregard these instructions as the Pass road may have wash outs, does not provide guard rails and is not fully maintained throughout the year.
-
You might be lucky enough to encounter a cattle drive ahead of you. So, have your camera ready, wave at the wranglers (they like that!) but follow their lead as driving cattle is serious business.
-
8A and 34 meet here just south of Vya. Continue around the curve to the left – North 8A and Nevada 34 --until you reach the Old Yella Dog Ranch entrance, located at 41°35'32"N 119°51'34"W (the elevation is 5,561 feet).

The ranch entrance will be on your left. As you drive in, look for the ranch cabin on your right and be prepared to start enjoying your stay!
